Smokefree Rockquest in conjunction with The Rockshop have created a new platform for the next generation of Contemporary musicians. A new competition for Intermediate Kids, in which they can step out and perform in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Rockshop 'Bandquest' has a focus on education, inspiration and entertainment, and is brought to you by the team who run 'Smokefree Rockquest'.

'Rockshop Bandquest' is for bands (Two or more members) younger than year 9. Everything needs to be performed live - no prerecorded instruments or vocals. Bands are to play a short two-song set (or Medley) of covers or original songs. (there is an award for the best original song).

The date for the Waikato/Bay of Plenty region was Wednesday 23 November 2011.
The day started at 2:30 with rehearsals and workshops during the afternoon and finished with a performance in the evening.
There were 12 bands competing and we entered two bands. The M.I.S Rockers and the Jokers.
We managed to come home with a credible 3rd place from The Jokers and a fourth place from M.I.S Rockers. An awesome three piece band called Thicker than Water from Kimihia School in Huntly were placed 1st. Their drummer was year 6 and had to put blocks of wood on the pedals to see over the top. Second was a band from Tauranga Intermediate.

Check out the video's.of the M.I.S. Rockers on the night.

Matamata Intermediate School are very proud of our two Rockbands that performed at Bandquest and we wish you all the best as you head off to college next year.
